Humanity stands on the brink of eradicating the second human disease in history.
Polio – a disease that has disabled millions and pulled many people further into poverty – has been reduced by more than 99%.
Global efforts have delivered incredible progress: immunising more than 2 billion children and saving more than 8 million children from life-long paralysis or death.
Yet even one child who is paralysed by this easily preventable disease is one too many. We have a unique window of opportunity to end polio for good – all that’s needed is the political will to make it happen.
That's why The End of Polio campaign is working with partners such as Rotary International, along with governments and the broader community, to support the polio eradication efforts and make the end of polio a reality.
HOW DOES THE CAMPAIGN WORK?
"We can't blame the politicians because we have to give them permission to spend what is in the end our money."
– U2 frontman, Bono.
Between 2011 and the end of 2013, more than 60,000 ordinary people signed our petition calling on world leaders to announce additional funding for polio eradication – and they listened! The supporters of this campaign, in collaboration with Rotary, RESULTS and others, have successfully leveraged more than $900 million in additional funding for polio eradication from the governments of Australia, Canada, the Isle of Man, Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
Now we’re building on this success. We’re urging world leaders to commit the remaining funds needed to wipe out all polio, everywhere by 2018.
So please, ask your friends to join you in calling on some of our world’s most powerful people to make polio eradication a priority! Take action now.
